Tech Honors: “James and I got into vaporwave in 2012, and later basically James wanted to show me that the Dreamcast game Shenmue was like an 'interactive vaporwave album' so he recorded a bunch of music from the game onto his 4-track and made SHENMUE ONLINE (the first dds album/mixtape) and posted it on bandcamp to share with me. He used the name dds.wmv as part of a joke we had made a few months prior on facebook when I posted the youtube video 'death's dynamic shroud.wmv' on his fb and he said 'the name of this video sounds like a vaporwave artist name lol.' Then I used the name to eccojam some pop and 16-bit video game music, and then we just started gaining attention thru bandcamp via the "vaporwave" tag and we were like 'welp, i guess this is what we're doing now!'”
