Samuel Heinrich's Usability Testing Website

Introduction

Description of Website Selected

The website I selected is LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a social networking platform, but it is primarily focused on job listings and professional resume presentation. Individuals use it to find job openings that match their criteria and qualifications, build their personal resume and impression on employers, and to share their experiences at a particular employer. Organizations use the platform to build their company brand, find potential new hires, and to share their company news.

Why Selected

There are a few different processes or tasks on LinkedIn that can be analyzed from a usability perspective. Some of these include:

Creating a User Profile
The process for creating a profile is relatively straightforward, but it does have several issues, such as lack of communication on their use of your email information.
Networking
LinkedIn creates a way for individuals and businesses to connect using groups or discussions that help them expand their network.
Job Search
Users can form a search query around several specifications, such as industry, location, job title, remote opportunity, and more.
Sharing of Content Creation
LinkedIn has features that allow users to post content such as articles, text, images, and other content similar to any other social media platform. Users can also like, comment on, and share these posts.
Aside from these features, LinkedIn has been known to have some possibly dark practices that may manipulate users to approve or share things that they did not intend. The platform is also commonly accused of spamming emails and notifications of its users. Also, the UI of the LinkedIn website is considered by many to be quite messy and overloaded. While there are potentially many issues with the LinkedIn site, many people have nonetheless gotten much use out of it, so I would like to analyze the usability of this website by conducting formal usability tests.
